China Retail Industry Report, 2012-2015 released by Sino Market Insight forecasts that in 2015, the market size of Chinese retail industry will reach RMB 32.06212 trillion.
In January to June of 2012, China’s total retail amount of social consumer goods grew at a stable level of about 11%, of which, growth rates in June and July hit 11.3% and 11.1% respectively, 0.7 and 1.1 percentage points (at a low CPI level) higher than the same period last year, reflecting a stabilized trend in actual consumption.
In 2012, the aggressive expansion of online retailing becomes the most prominent highlight in Chinese retail market. In 2011, the transaction size of online retail market in China exceeded RMB800 billion, up to RMB801.9 billion, presenting a YoY rise of 56%. Major varieties sold in department stores such as home appliances, clothing, shoes, hats and others with higher degree of standardization are becoming new favorites for online shopping. In the foreseeable future (next 1-2 years), the impact from e-business on the traditional commodity retail industry is beyond doubt enormous, particularly shown from commodities with higher degree of standardization.
