On February 24, 2014, AAI signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of Uttar Pradesh to develop the project.

In April 20, 2015, the project was placed on hold due to financial issues.

In August 2015, state government has released US$27 million for the development of three airport development projects.

In Febraury 2016, Airports Authority of India (AAI) refused to undertake the project claiming that the project is not financially viable.

In July 2016, The State Government has decided to revise the complete Master Plan within one month's time to enable UP government start land acquisition proceedings.
