Summary
Aga Khan Hospitals (AKH) is undertaking the expansion of a hospital in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The project involves the expansion of a 74-bed secondary care community hospital to a 13,935m2 170-bed tertiary and academic medical center. It includes the construction of inpatient bed units, a diagnostic imaging, an intensive care, an emergency department, private wing and parking facilities.

APC Architectural Pioneering Consultants Ltd. has been appointed to provide detailed design services and supervise the construction activities; Payette appointed as a master planner; COWI as the structural engineer; Buro Happold Ltd as a lead consultant; Stratton Castell & Partners as cost consultant; and Turner & Townsend plc as project management contractor.

In May 2015, AKH secured concessionary long term finance of a US$53 million from Agence Française de Developpement AFD and US$25 million grant from The Aga Khan Development Network to the project.

On 23 August, 2016, Construction activities are commenced.

Construction activities are underway and the project is expected to complete in 2018.
