Scope
The project involves electrification of 57km double track railway line between Roskilde and Kalundborg in Denmark.

The US$213 million project includes the following:

1. Renewal of signaling systems
2. Installation of safety systems
3. Laying of overhead transmission lines
Summary
Banedanmark, a Danish company responsible for maintenance and traffic control of the Danish railway network, is undertaking the electrification of a railway network in Denmark.

The project involves the electrification of a 57km-long double track section between Esbjerg and Lunderskov. It includes the renewal of signaling systems, and the installation of safety systems.

Systra and COWI have been appointed to prepare the tender documents for the design-build contract, which will cover electrification, establishment of traction current and power supply systems, negotiation and contracting, as well as subsequent review and approval of the contractor's design and supervision of the works.

In November 2013, the project secured US$15m funds from the European Union's (EU) TEN-T programme.

In April 2014, Banedanmark shortlisted five companies to undertake the electrification works. The five companies are as follows:

1) Aarsleff Siemens

2) ASB Consortium (Alstom Transport Denmark, Bravida Denmark and SPL Powerlines)

3) Consortium Strukton & Balfour Beatty

4) EIS Joint Venture

5) JV Obrascon Huarte Lain (OHL) - TSO

On May 29, 2015, the consortium of Aarsleff-Siemens was appointed as design-build contractor. Siemens AG will commission the electrical overhead lines.

Atkins and Ramboll have been appointed to provide technical advice on environmental impact assessment(EIA), traffic analysis, geotechnical of program design phase of electrification, traction, signals, immunization, bridges, roads, remote control and irrigation for reliability, availability, maintainability and safety(RAMS) and quality assurance

Per Aarsleff A/S, along with its subsidiaries Aarsleff Rail A/S and Wicotec-Kirkebjerg A/S, will undertake the construction works.

Europten was appointed as a installation sub contractor.

In November 2015, an invitation to open house meeting was held to explain about the electrification process.

On February 25, 2016, the electrification and improvement works on the project commenced.

In March 2016, NKT Cables A/S was appointed as cables supply contractor for the project.

Major part of electrification work on the project were completed in January 2017 and the entire work is scheduled to complete in August 2017.
