Summary
The Cambridgeshire County Council (CCC) is undertaking the construction of an education complex in Littleport, East Cambridgeshire, England, the UK.



The project involves the construction of an education and leisure complex comprising a three story secondary school, a special school and a primary school on a 16.34ha of land. It includes the construction of classrooms, staff rooms, libraries, laboratories, office space, parking and related facilities. The project will be implemented in three phases.

The first phase includes the replacement of existing leisure complex which will comprise of a sports hall, a fitness suite, and multi-use hall for use by the whole community. It will also include the construction of the early year's school which will cater for 18 young children. The Second and third project phase will include the construction of the new, one form entry primary school which is expected to be completed by 2020 and extension to the main Academy to allow for future pupil intakes.

WS Atkins plc has been appointed as a lead consultant and WYG PLC (WYG) as a technical consultant.

On February 27, 2014, CCC held a public consultation event on the proposed plans.

In April 2014, the Greenwood Dale Foundation Trust (GDFT) was appointed to overlook the operation of the secondary school.

CCC held further community consultation sessions on March 2, 2015, and March 12, 2015.

On May 1, 2015, WYG submitted a planning and heritage statement to the East Cambridgeshire District Council (ECDC).

On June 9, 2015, CCC submitted the final planning application to ECDC.

In September 2015, the project secured approval from Cambridgeshire County Council.

CCC intends to fund the project from a combination of Department for Education money and contributions from developers.

In January 2016, the groundwork has commenced on the first phase of the development.

On February 21, 2016, Morgan Sindall was awarded the construction contract. Morgan Sindall will also deliver external landscaping including improvements to existing playing fields and new hard and soft play areas. Wynne-Williams Associates Ltd has been appointed as the landscape architect.

In April 2016, Imtech has been awarded a US$6.8 million contract to undertake the mechanical and electrical design and build at Cambridgeshire’s latest new education and leisure complex in Littleport.



The secondary school (11-16) will be called "Littleport and East Cambridgeshire Academy" and the special school (4-16) will be called "Highfield Littleport".

The construction on the first phase completed and opened for students in September 2017. The complete construction on the project is slated to be complete by 2020.
