The Dutch market for cigars and cigarillos declined in 2012 for the seventh consecutive year to 374 million pieces (22.35 per capita), valued at €155 million at retail prices.
The country is a major production centre (the second largest in the world) with output of around 2.5 billion cigars and cigarillos a year and exports of almost 1.6 billion pieces in 2012. Agio, STG and Ritmeester (Burger Söhne) all operate from the country. These three companies accounted for a combined 75.7% of the domestic market in 2012.
