In recent years, global photovoltaic power generation industry has witnessed rapid growth. The output of global photovoltaic solar batteries was 36.5GW in 2013, a year-on-year rise of 1.5%.

China’s solar battery manufacturing industry has equipped with scale advantages. In 2009 the output of solar batteries in China reached 4382MW with an increase of 66% over 2008, occupying 39.8% of global market shares and ranking the first across the world. And in 2013, the output of solar batteries in China achieved 28.86GW, a substantial growth year-on-year.

The output of polycrystalline silicon in 2013 was 255 thousand tons globally, a year-on-year growth of 8.1%. Of which above 235 thousand tons are solar grade polycrystalline silicon, and the output electronic grade polycrystalline silicon was less than 20 thousand tons. The outputs in China and overseas were 82 thousand tons and 153 thousand tons respectively. Current market price is lower than production cost, but rate of operation in major foreign polycrystalline silicon producers is very high, reaching 80% to 90%. The total annual output of the top four foreign producers (Wacker, OCI, Hemlock and REC) is amount to 138 thousand tons. The output of the international top five (including the output of China ENEN Energy Group Co., Ltd) approaches to 188 thousand tons, accounting for 80% of global total output. From the perspective of output of polycrystalline silicon, it is observed that polycrystalline silicon is in liberal supply.

Huidian Research predicts that the output of China’s solar battery industry will be 65GW with an annual growth of 14% by 2018.
