Summary
Ethiopian Roads Authority (ERA) is undertaking the construction of an expressway in Ethiopia.

The project involves the construction of a 120Km expressway from Adama to Awash. It includes the construction of link roads, overpass bridges, underpasses, interchanges, toll plazas and the installation of signaling and safety systems.

The project is divided into two lots. The first lot includes the construction of a 60km from Adama to Wolnchiti, and the second includes 60km from Wolnchiti to Awash.

Beijing Expressway Supervision Co. Ltd and Beza Consulting Engineers Plc have been awarded a contract to undertake the feasibility study.

Ethiopian Government has secured funds from Export-Import Bank of China (EXIM Bank of China) for the project.

On August 25, 2013, feasibility studies commenced and completed in August 2015.

On June 28, 2016, ERA issued request for proposals (RFP) for the appointment of a design-build contractor with a submission date of July 14, 2016. The bid was floated back in July 2016, yet it was subsequently canceled as the ERA believed the offers made by the companies were highly inflated.

On June 1, 2017, the tender was re-announced and ERA invited only Chinese construction companies with submission deadline as July 2017.

As of September 2017, the submitted bids evaluation process is underway.
