There are two carotid arteries, one on each side of the neck that supply blood to the brain. These arteries can get narrowed and damaged with time by fatty deposits called plaque. If the plaque breaks open, it might create a blood clot, which could impact the brain and cause a stroke. Carotid stenting can enhance the blood flow to the brain, lowering the risk of a stroke. CAS is a method that can be utilized to open a narrowed carotid artery. It involves the placement of a small, expandable tube called stent in the affected artery. This procedure can also be called carotid angioplasty and stenting.
