NGFWs have the capabilities of the standard first generation firewall, which consists of packet filtering, NAT, VPN, and SPI. The primary characteristic of a NGFW is the integration of high quality of the IPS engine and signatures. For making better blocking decisions, NGFW brings information from sources outside the firewall.
