They are sensitive materials and also called as smart polymers. The polymer chameleons are stimuli-responsive, as they show changes in their microstructure. They can undergo reversible transitions from a hydrophilic to a hydrophobic microstructure. The external changes to polymer chameleons can be due to heat, pH (power of hydrogen), magnetic and electric fields, light, ultrasound, ionic strength, and chemical species.
