About Pulse Oximetry Pulse oximetry is a non-invasive method used to measure the arterial oxygen saturation level in a patient's blood. Pulse oximetry works on the principle of spectrophotometry. The technique makes use of characteristics of hemoglobin for absorption of light and the pulsating nature of blood flow in the arteries. Using a pulse oximeter, hypoxia (a condition in which there is an inadequate oxygen supply in the body or a region of the body) can be detected before patients become cyanosed clinically. Pulse oximeters are used by patients with respiratory or cardiac problems, especially COPD, and for the diagnosis of sleep apnea and hypopnea. Pulse oximeters consist of a probe having light emitters with two different types of wavelengths of light, infrared and red. The light is transmitted through a body part such as a finger or ear lobe. The oxygenated hemoglobin absorbs more of the infrared light and the deoxygenated hemoglobin absorbs more of the red light. By calculating the amount of absorption, the sensor computes the proportion of... Research Beam Model: Research Beam Product ID: 169896 2500 USD New

About Pulse Oximetry
Pulse oximetry is a non-invasive method used to measure the arterial oxygen saturation level in a patient's blood. Pulse oximetry works on the principle of spectrophotometry. Using a pulse oximeter, hypoxia (a condition in which there is an inadequate oxygen supply in the body or a region of the body) can be detected before patients become cyanosed clinically. By calculating the amount of absorption, the sensor computes the proportion of oxygenated hemoglobin in the blood, and it is displayed digitally.
