About Renal Denervation

Renal denervation is a catheter-based minimally-invasive ablation procedure that helps reduce systolic blood pressure in individuals with drug-resistant hypertension. Systolic blood pressure is the first recorded reading. Diastolic blood pressure measures the pressure in the blood vessels when the heart rests between beats. The renal denervation catheter is introduced through the femoral artery in the upper thigh. The physician then makes several lesions using radiofrequency or ultrasound along the sympathetic nerves. These nerves connect the brain, heart, blood vessels, and kidneys, and play a major role in the management of hypertension.
