A torque sensor or a torque transducer is a device that is used for measuring the amount of torque acting upon a rotating system or mechanism in machinery such as engine, transmission, gearbox, crankshaft, or rotor. Torque sensors can measure all the components of torque acting along the six axes of a rotating system. Torque sensors measure both static and dynamic torque. However, the measurement of dynamic torque involves the transfer of either electric or magnetic effect from a shaft measured in a static system.
