Summary
Oman Wastewater Services Company (Haya Water) is undertaking the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant in Muscat, Oman.

The project involves the construction of a sewage treatment plant with an initial capacity of 18,000m3 per day in the first stage and double the capacity to 36,000m3/day in the next stage.

It will include the construction of sewage pumping stations, diversion chambers, a reservoir for treated effluents and tanker unloading points, the installation of an emergency lagoon, and the laying of pipelines.

On July 27, 2011, Haya Water invited tenders for construction of the project under design, build and operate (DBO) basis.

On March 12, 2012, the bids were submitted after delaying four times from September 26, 2011.

In December 2012, Haya Water awarded the contract for the installation of sewer and treated effluent pipelines to a joint venture comprised of Egypt’s Arab Contractors and Al Watanyiah United Engineering and Contracting Co. (formerly National United Engineering & Contracting).

The scope of contract includes delivering 23km of sewers, 140km of laterals and riders, 7km of treated effluent line installation and 43km of House Connections.

On October 29, 2014, a joint venture (JV) of Degrémont, a subsidiary of Suez Environnement, in a consortium with Al-Ansari Trading Enterprise LLC, was awarded US$63 million DBO contract for the wastewater treatment plant.

Construction activities are underway and expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2019.
