Heart block is the disease of cardiovascular electrical system, which controls the rhythm and rate of the heart. Heart block mainly occurs due to disturbed and slowed electrical signals across the heart. Heart block is categorized in two types on the basis of working of the cardiovascular electric signals; partial heart blocks and complete heart blocks. In the partial heart blocks, the cardiovascular electrical signals are partially blocked i.e., their influx to heart is delayed. In the complete heart blocks, the signals transmission is blocked completely. The heart blocks are also classified on the basis of severity as, first-degree heart blocks, second-degree heart blocks and third-degree heart blocks. In the first-degree heart blocks, the electrical signals slows down across the pathway from atrium (the upper chamber of the heart) to the ventricle (the lower chamber of the heart). The treatment of the heart blocks depend mainly on the type of the heart block an individual is suffering from. Treatment is not essential for the first-degree heart blocks. However, in the second-degree heart blocks, pacemakers are placed over the skin chest or abdomen by cardiologists. Adoption of pacemakers is also implemented in the third-degree heart blocks.
Presently, the heart blocks treatment market is witnessing the lucrative growth rate owing to the rising prevalence of heart diseases coupled with improvements in the various healthcare facilities globally. Increasing percentage of aging population, which is more susceptible toward heart blocks, and rise in population working in the corporate and strenuous environments are driving the heart block treatment market. However, the cost of the heart block treatment modalities and lack of advanced technological reach in underdeveloped economies would restrict the market growth.
Geographically, North America and Europe would be the lucrative segment for the growth of this market owing to the high prevalence rate of the heart blocks and rising demands for therapeutic medications for the effective management of the cardiovascular diseases in these regions. According to United Nation Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA), by 2050, China is estimated to include 437 million, India: 324 million, United States: 107 million and Brazil would have 58 million geriatric population and hence, prone towards heart blocks. Some of the key players working in the heart blocks treatment market include St. Jude Medical Inc., Medtronic, Inc., SORIN S.p.A., Boston Scientific Corporation, and BIOTRONIK SE & Co. KG.
