Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR) is undertaking the construction of Shagaya Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) plant project near Kuwait City, Kuwait. The project involves the construction of a 50MW concentrated solar power plant. It includes the construction of a substation, access roads and other related facilities, the installation of solar panels and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines. KISR intends to use parabolic trough technology, with 10 hours of thermal energy storage using molten salt, and a dry cooling system to minimize water consumption. Dr.Ing. In June 2013, KISR issued request for proposals(RFP) for contractor with submission deadline in November 2013. In March 2014, Kuwait’s Central Tenders Committee (CTC) approved the award of US$494 million to Spain’s Grupo Cobra in association with United Gulf Enterprises General Trading & Contracting Co. (UGETCO) for the EPC contract, however the contract was cancelled.



In 2014, tenders were re-invited from the six shortlisted companies. Two lowest bidders are TSK Electronica and Elecnor.

Isowat has been appointed as design consultant.

Government of Kuwait provided fund for the project.

In September 2015, TSK Group a joint venture by Kharafi National was awarded US$388 million construction contract.

Construction works are underway with completion scheduled by April 2018.
