Summary
Levenseat Renewables (Levenseat) is undertaking the construction of Forth Energy-From-Waste Plant project in South Lanarkshire, the UK.

The project involves the construction of a 12.3MW EfW plant and a materials recycling facility (MRF) on 7.5ha of land and it will use 250, 000 tonnes per annum of residual waste.

It includes the construction of a waste preparation plant, sorting facilities, processing units, a powerhouse, a substation, the installation of related machinery, the laying of transmission lines.

The waste preparation plant will be designed to process 42 tonnes per hour (TPH) of commercial and industrial waste, as well as municipal solid waste from councils across the Central Belt.

The MRF will produce a minimum of 100,000 tonnes per annum (TPA) of high quality refused derived fuel (RDF) as a feedstock for the EfW plant. Furthermore, the system will produce a solid recovered fuel (SRF) stream from the super-light and high-calorific nonrecyclable material.

On December 15, 2014, Levenseat announced the completion of the enabling works.

M+W Group GmbH (M+W) has been appointed as engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor; Fichtner Consulting Engineers Ltd as a consulting engineer; Foresight Group as a environmental consultant.

In December 2014, the construction works commenced.

On March 23, 2015, UK Green Investment Bank through UK Waste & Resource & Energy Investment (UKWREI) along with Foresight Group and Zouk Capital LLP announced an equity investment of US$43 million towards the construction of the plant, while the debt funding will come from Investec Bank plc.

In March 2015, Machinex Recycling was appointed by M+W to provide a material recovery facility (MRF) for EfW plant. To meet the objectives of the plant, Machinex will use the latest technologies including four shredders, one Machinex trommel, one waste screen, three air separators, two Machinex ballistic separators, three Machinex MACH Hyspec optical sorting units, one fluidized bed dryer and two Machinex single-ram balers.

The fluidized bed drying technology will be used to upgrade the quality of RDF recovered from fines stream, which includes wet organic waste. This continuous dryer will use some of the heat generated by the waste-to-energy plant located adjacent to the MRF.

Installation works are underway. Construction works are expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2018.
