Summary
The Ministry of Health Kuwait (MoH) and the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) are planning to undertake the construction of a children's hospital at Kuwait City, Kuwait.

The project involves the construction of a 595,000m2, 792-bed tertiary children’s hospital. It includes the construction of a five-story diagnostic/treatment podium, 99 intensive care units (ICUs), 48 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), 30 surgical theatres, seven CT scanners, 19 X-ray rooms, 14 ultrasound rooms, a roof garden, children’s play areas, 19,974m2 outpatient clinics, inpatient rooms, laboratories, an administrative building, 2,400 car parking spaces, and five shelters for civil defense.

It also includes the construction of a helipad with two dedicated lifts and a free-standing daycare center catering to infants and pre-toddlers and pre-schoolers, diagnostic and treatment centers to complement all tertiary care services, and non-clinical support and public departments, public areas which include a 450m long, enclosed atrium and the installation of security systems.

A total of 792 beds will be split between secondary care with 160 beds, and 632-bed tertiary care to cater all medical needs and modes of treatment.

The project will be implemented on design, award and construct basis.

HKS Architects appointed as an architect and WSP Global Inc. as an engineering consultant for the project.

On March 23, 2016, SSH International (SSH) secured a contract to provide study and design services.

On February 1, 2017, SSH unveiled the design for the project.

On September 11, 2017, HKS Architects held a design expo on the project.

Design activities are underway. Construction works are scheduled to be completed in 2020.
