Summary
Ministry of Railways (MoR) is planning to undertake the construction of a railway line in Karnataka, India.

The project involves the construction of a 162.2km railway line. It will be executed in two phases.

Nanjangud to Sulthan Bathery railway line will be built in the first phase while Sultan Bathery to Nilambur railway line in the second phase.

It will include the construction of railway stations, substations, railway signaling cabins, platforms, an administrative facility, bridges and related facilities, and the installation of signaling and safety systems.

In December 2013, a survey on the proposed railway line was completed.

In March 2014, the Nilgiris-Wayanad National Highway and Railway Action Committee (NWNHRAC) directed the State Government to form a special-purpose vehicle (SPV) for the implementation of the project.

The project has been submitted by Karnataka state government to the central government and the state government expressed that is willing to bear 50% of the project costs.

On December 10, 2015, the State government signed a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) with MoR.

On February 26, 2016, project was approved by the cabinet.

In June 2016, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was appointed to prepare a detailed project report and a final location survey.

In May 2017, DMRC put the study activities on hold due to financial reasons.
