National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is planning to undertake the construction a tunnel road in Karnataka, India. The project involves the construction of a 23.5km tunnel road. The project will include the construction of the six-lane road,10 bridges comprising five over-bridges for a distance of 3.9km, high-pier bridges covering 10km, a 2km arch bridge and access shafts and six-lane road, and the installation of safety and lighting systems. The tunnel is being constructed using drilling & blasting method. It will be developed on a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) has expressed interest in providing technical assistance for the project. Geo Consultants Private Ltd (Geoconsult) has been appointed to prepare the project report and Japan International Cooperation Agency as a financial advisor. Public Works Department, Karnataka (PDW) has been appointed as project manager. In March 2015, the state government discussed the proposal with the Union Ministry for Road Transport and Highways.
