Summary
Petrobras, in partnership with Petrogal Brasil SA formed by Portugal's Galp Energia SGPS SA and China Petroleum and Chemical Co (Sinopec), is planning to undertake the development of the Jupiter offshore oil and gas field at BM-S-24 Block, Santos basin in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The project involves the development of an oil field, the construction of an FPSO, the installation of an external turret mooring, control valves, and sub-sea structures, the drilling of production and injector wells, and the laying of pipelines.

The first well 1-BRSA-559A-RJS was drilled in January 2008 and is located on Block BM-S-24, 290km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro, at a water depth of 2,187m.

The second well was drilled in November 2008 to confirm the exact gas to oil ratio of Jupiter. The results have not been made public.

In October 2013, Petrobras completed the drilling of the third well, Bracuhy. The project confirmed a hydrocarbon column of approximately 160m and measured 100m thick, which contained rocks of good porosity and permeability. Bracuhy is 267km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro in 2,251m water depth.

The fourth well drilled in the Jupiter project area is located 296km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro at 2,183m water depth. It sits 8km southwest of the original discovery well.

Petrobras and Galp evaluated the technical and commercial challenges to develop Jupiter project in addition to its ultra-deepwater conditions.

In August 2015, Petrobras decided to cut the planned investment decisions.

On November 13, 2015, Petrobras submitted a Declaration of Commerciality (DoC) to the Brazilian National Agency for Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP) for the oil accumulation located in the northwest area of the Jupiter discovery evaluation plan.

In March 2016, the National Petroleum Agency (ANP) approved the Discovery Assessment Plan for well 1-BRSA-559A-RJ.
