Summary
Shandong Energy (Australia) Pty Ltd (SEA), a wholly owned subsidiary of Shandong Energy Group (SEG), is planning to undertake the Hillalong Coal Mine and Associated Infrastructure Development project in the Isaac Regional Council area in Bowen Basin, Queensland, Australia.

The project involves the development of a open-cut coal mine with a capacity to produce 1.5 to 1.8 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) of high volatile content coking and thermal coal.

The project includes the construction of run of mine (ROM) coal stockpiles, product coal stockpiles, water management infrastructure, wastewater treatment facilities, road from site access to main road, light vehicle access roads, heavy vehicle haul roads, communications infrastructure i.e. towers and cabling, workshops, administration buildings, fuel and chemical storage facilities, a warehouse, hardstand areas and other related infrastructural facilities.

Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) appointed The Independent Expert Scientific Committee (the IESC) as Environmental Consultant.

CDM Smith has been appointed as Engineering Consultant and Wright Mining Consultants Pty Ltd as a consultant for the project.

On December 7, 2012, an application was made by the RRL for the preparation of a voluntary environmental impact statement (EIS) for the proposed project and on January 8, 2013, Department of Environment and Heritage Protection (EHP) approved the application.

On June 6, 2013, the final terms of reference (TOR) for the EIS was issued to RRL.

In March 2017, the project received EIS approvals from the government.
