Summary
Sonangol, a company responsible for the management of oil and gas reserves in Angola is undertaking the construction of a Sonaref Refinery on a 3,805 ha of the area with a processing capacity of 200,000 barrels of oil per day at Lobito, Angola.

The project is developed in two phases. The refinery unit will process crude into the following products: unleaded gasoline, diesel, jet fuel (Jet1), illuminant oil, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), and limited quantities of sulfur and oil coke.

The project also includes the construction of an atmospheric distillation unit, a vacuum distillation, FCC, a hydrocracker, Diesel Hydrotreating (DHT) and Kerosene Hydrotreating (KHT).

The project also includes the construction of heavy haul road to transport materials and equipment to the refinery, as well as a marine facility that will be used to import and export both raw and finished hydrocarbon products.

In June 2016, the project along with the contracts involved are suspended due to the drop in oil prices in the international market and to re-evaluate the investment accordingly to the market trend.

In November 2017, Sonangol resumed its works to find investors for the project.

As of March 2018, Sonangol received 16 proposals for resuming the works on the project.

Sonangol is in the process of evaluating the proposals received from the private companies to resume the construction works.
