Summary
University of the West Indies (UWI) and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) are planning to undertake the expansion of the university in Kingston, Jamaica.

The project involves expansion of the University Hospital of the West Indies from 500 beds to 1,000 beds. It includes the construction of a maternity ward, patient rooms, laboratories, operating theaters, parking and related facilities.

The project includes the redevelopment of Mona Visitors Lodge into a 150-room hotel.

It includes the construction of a co-generation plant, a College Commons housing for staff members, a student center to accommodate 8,000 to 10,000 persons.

On August 26, 2015, UWI signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with CHEC for the development of the project. Under the terms of MoU, CHEC will invest and undertake the construction.
