The US$550 million project includes the following:

Summary
The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) is undertaking the construction of a hydroelectric power plant in Dasu, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

The project involves the construction of a 128MW hydroelectric power plant. It includes the construction of a powerhouse, a substation and other related infrastructure, the installation of transformers and generators and the laying of transmission lines.

KfW and European Investment Bank (EIB) are providing US$133 million and US$137 million in funding respectively for the construction of the project.

In September 2014, Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved a summary for the setting up project with a rationalized cost of US$326 million.

The project is supported by Islamic Development Bank loan US$227 million, World Bank loan US$23.600 million, JICA grant US$8.031 million and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation grant US$68.207 million. Interest on the loan shall be paid by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

On September 20, 2014, a joint venture of Sinohydro and Hajvairy Group was awarded civil works contract for the proposed project and Lahmeyer International was appointed as leading consultant.

Sarwar & Co. Private Ltd was awarded as powerhouse tunnel contract.

In August 2015, WAPDA initiated the process of appointing electrical and mechanical (E&M) works contractor.

On August 13, 2016, site works commenced.

In September 2016, The government of Pakistan issued orders to commence construction works to mobilize machinery, equipment, labor on the project site.

Construction works are underway and scheduled to complete on August 12, 2020.
