About Network Cameras
A network camera, also known as an IP camera, works as a combination of camera and computer in a networked infrastructure. It consists of a lens, an image sensor, memory, and processors. The processors help in image processing, compression, video analysis, and networking functionalities. The memory stores the video footage captured by network cameras, which can be accessed later. The network cameras are deployed for surveillance and placed at several points within the network, which enables efficient data transmission to a limited set of monitors over an IP network.
Network cameras enhance the level of security as they constantly monitor every activity and record it. The various methods used for maintaining security while using network cameras are:
• Authentication and authorization: the end-user is authenticated by username and password
• Data encryption: added security that prevents unauthorised access to data
Network cameras are flexible enough to be moved over a network and contain an analytics solution that helps in analyzing the situation captured by the cameras. Also, network cameras can work with the help of PoE protocol in the absence of power supply.
