Biomass pellets are a type of fuels normally used for heating and as a power source for household’s purpose and industrial facilities. These pellets are generally derived from various sources such as sawdust, timber industry, sugarcane crop, woody plants and switch grass. Across the world, biomass pellet stoves or boilers are preferred to traditional wood-fired fuel sources.

Recently, “Alliance for Green Heat”, involving a wide base of partner organizations and stove experts has launched an initiative which will test and assess the most prominent pellet stoves in North America. This is a year-long project that has entered its first phase this summer is aimed to help prospective buyers of stoves to identify the most efficient stoves based on biomass pellets. Pellet stoves are increasingly being adopted in regions such as North America and Europe, and is poised to become an excellent substitute for fossil fuels used in household cooking. The alliance will independently test some of the most popular models made in North America and Europe for emissions and efficiency.

The second phase of the project will feature stove technology competition on international level to offer innovative pellet stoves and concerned prototypes wherein pellet stoves will be tested and the top devices awarded based on their output & performance. The competition will be focused on low emissions equipment and increased efficiency in a simulated lab setting, where the customers will also get a chance to test the equipment.

As per a reliable estimate, there are about 1 million pellet stoves in North America where most pellet stoves are manufactured by limited number of companies.

This pellet stove challenge marks the third stove design challenge, and the second to take place at Brookhaven. Such events on stove design challenges consist of a large-scale participation of stakeholder engaged in testing and assessing stoves, and the interested market participants will get a chance to know how testing is conducted. Further such competitions provide a breeding ground for workshops and roundtable discussions that integrates various key industry players, national regulators, air quality groups, and media organizations. The aforementioned developments will offer stimulus to the growth of the global biomass pellets market.

Recently, Research Beam has added a report titled Global Biomass Pellets Market 2015-2019”. The report offers an insight the current market developments, future growth prospects, key drivers and restraints, market profile of leading manufacturers along with the strategies adopted by them to gain a foothold in the global biomass pellets market. As per the report, global biomass pellets market is expected to grow at 11.0 % CAGR percent amid the period 2014-2019.
