SOFC (solid oxide fuel cell) is a device that generates electricity through electrochemical process of oxidizing a fuel. Low emissions, fuel flexibility and high efficiency are some of the few benefits that SOFC offer to its users. The fuel flexibility in SOFC enables the use of safe, readily available and cheap fuels such as syngas, hydrocarbons, natural gas, methanol and hydrogen. Thus, making it relatively cost efficient.

Growing concerns with the energy efficiency across the globe is serving the need to market growth of the global SOFC market. The report titled “Global SOFC Market 2015-2019”, provides further insights on the latest market trends and factors influencing the growth of the global market in varied geographies such as APAC, America and EMEA.

The global SOFC market has bright future ahead and the manufacturing giants are all looking ahead to conquer the global market with mergers and acquisitions. Recently, WATT Fuel Cell Corp., developer & manufacturer of solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) components & systems, acquired Pittsburgh Electric Engines Inc. (PEEI), Mt. Pleasant-based tubular SOFC developer. The SOFC manufacturing giant, WATT corp., held an opening event at the new location in MT. Pleasant, Pennsylvania.

At the event, Dr. Caine Finnerty, WATT Fuel Cell’s CEO said, “We are incredibly thrilled to be up and running here in our new Mt. Pleasant manufacturing facility, where we are scaling up SOFC production for near-term commercial availability. Here, WATT’s advanced manufacturing process, which provides a level of cost effectiveness that is unmatched in the industry, is being combined with PEEI’s 15-plus years of testing and technology development of tubular fuel cell solutions to create reliable, efficient, and accessibly priced energy solutions across a wide scope of power application demands.”

U.S. Rep. Tim Murphy, R-Pennsylvania, was also seen at the event. The member House Energy & Environment Committee and the founder of the House Caucus on Natural Gas, Tim murphy said, “The availability of natural gas has become a driving economic force here in western Pennsylvania, and WATT’s SOFC technology, which can run on natural gas as well as several readily available fuel sources, aligns with the economic opportunities available in this region, WATT’s SOFCs provide one of the cleanest and most efficient means by which to employ natural gas for electric power generation, and the company’s new manufacturing operations in Mt. Pleasant will further strengthen the local economy.”
