Summary
The Atlanta Braves (AB) is undertaking the construction of a sports complex in North Port, Florida, the US.

The project involves the construction of a sports complex on 28.3ha of land. It includes the construction of an 8,000-seat stadium(including 6,200 in fixed seats, 800 in general-admission areas and 1,000 in berm seating), a baseball academy, suites, 5,110m2 club house, six practice fields, locker rooms, an office space, 750 parking spaces and related facilities, and the installation of audio systems, lighting systems and safety and security systems.

Sarasota County will contribute US$22.1 million from hotel and motel tax revenue.

In January 2017, AB unveiled the project plans.

On February 28, 2017, Sarasota County Planning Board approved the letter of intent.

On May 23, 2017, AB received the preliminary planning approvals.

Sarasota County will provide US$21.3 million of the construction cost, the state of Florida US$14.4 million and North Port US$4.7 million. (The state’s commitment is US$20 million over 20 years, but that includes interest payments.)

AB will provide the remaining US$55.5 million through a combination of up-front payments (about US$18 million for architectural, engineering and construction fees and costs) and annual payments over 30 years (sufficient to cover debt service on US$37.5 million in bonds)

On September 19, 2017, AB secured final planning approvals for the project.

On October 12, 2017, Tandem Construction and Barton Malow has appointed as construction contractor for the project.

On October 16, 2017, groundbreaking ceremony was held marking the start of construction and slated for completion by February 2019.
