Summary
Adani Power (Jharkhand) Ltd (APJL), a subsidiary of Adani Power Ltd (APL), is undertaking a coal-based power plant in Godda district of Jharkhand, India.
The project involves the construction of a coal-based power plant comprising two power units (2x800MW) with a total capacity of 1,600MW.
It also includes the construction of a powerhouse, a substation, fuel storage tanks, chimneys and combustion chambers and related infrastructure, the installation of generators, turbines, and the laying of 400kV transmission lines.
Greencindia Consulting Pvt Ltd has been appointed as environmental consultant and Lahmeyer International (India) Pvt. Ltd as study consultant.
On February 17, 2016, Adani has signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Jharkhand government giving an approval or disapproval rights to the state government.
The MoU was signed for stage-1 with one year term and next stage would be signed only after completion of the first stage and Adani completed its pre-feasibility study of two 800MW thermal power stations in Godda and Sahibganj district each.
In May 2016, the project was temporarily put on hold due to environmental concerns such as such as inadequate information about the withdrawal of water from the nearby Chir river and the water use.
In June 2016, Experts Appraisal Committee (EAC) under the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) sought more details from Adani for preparing the Terms of Reference (ToR), a guideline for the environmental impact assessment (EIA) studies for the project.
Adani Power has submitted the required documents in July 2016 and has received an initial approval for the ToR. However, the approval committee has suggested a few additions to the ToR for undertaking detailed EIA study and preparation of EMP (environmental management plan).
On February 22, 2017, the Adani group signed a MoU with the state to set up 1600MW plant in Godda.
On May 2, 2017, Adani Group conducted a public meeting with land donors and officials allayed their doubts and explained the benefits of the power plant to the local people.
In September 2017, Adani Group has secured environmental approvals for the project.
On November 8, 2017, Adani Group has signed a 25-years power purchase agreement (PPA) with Bangladesh Power Development Board.
On April 24, 2018, SEPCOIII secured Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contract for the project and construction activities are expected to be completed by May 2022.
