About Linear Alkyl Benzene
Benzene is a by-product of crude oil, which is used in various applications. It is colorless and a highly flammable liquid with a sweet smell. It is used for manufacturing chemicals with a complex structure such as styrene and ethylbenzene. More than 50% of the entire benzene production is processed into styrene, which is used to make plastics and polymers. A small amount of benzene is used to make rubber, detergents, explosives, lubricants, dyes, drugs, and pesticides. LAB is a raw material used in the production of detergents. It is a colorless liquid with a specific odor. LAB produced from mono-olefins are detergent immediate and can be easily sulfonated to obtain linear alkyl sulfonate acid (LABSA). Some of the characteristics of LAB are high light yield, high flash point, low radioactive impurities, and optimum optical transparency. LAB is either directly supplied to end users or converted to LAS and then sold.
