Summary
Harvest Operations Corp. (Harvest), a subsidiary of Korea National Oil Corporation (KNOC), is undertaking the construction of BlackGold Oil Sands Development project in Conklin, Alberta, Canada.

The project involves the construction of oil sands field and is being developed in phases.

The first phase envisaged the construction of oil sands field with a production capacity of 10,000 barrels per day (bpd) and the second phase includes the construction of oil sands field with a capacity of 20,000bpd.

It includes the construction of processing units, storage tanks, office spaces, the installation of machinery, safety and security systems.

ClydeUnion Pumps Ltd has been appointed to supply pumps.

On July 18, 2010, GS Engineering and Construction appointed as the lump-sum turnkey contractor.

On October 19, 2010, the construction works on the first phase commenced.

On June 28, 2011, GE was appointed to supply the produced water evaporation and zero liquid discharge (ZLD) system. GE’s Evaporation, Crystallization and Solidification Technologies will enable the project to comply with environmental regulations and reduce operating costs.

Harvest allocated US$215 million as funds for the project, of which US$31 million was spent in the first quarter of 2012.

The second phase of the project received all the regulatory approvals in December 2013.

In April 2015, construction of the first phase was completed and the start-up of the commercial operations of first phase one has been delayed. The project has been placed on hold due to low oil prices. However, in June 2017, Harvest is working towards commercial start-up.

Construction works on the second phase are underway.
