Summary
National Grid Viking Link Ltd (NGVL), a subsidiary of National Grid and Energinet are planning to construct a transmission line between Lincolnshire, Great Britain and Denmark.

The project involves the construction of a 760km, 1400MW interconnector. It includes the construction of substations, installation of 630km submarine high voltage director current cables, undersea and underground cables, a converter station on 4ha of land and related facilities.

In October 2015, NGVL and Energinet started tender activities for the project.

On April 11, 2016, a six-week public consultation was held.

The Ministry of Climate and Energy, Denmark, initiated its first public consultation on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) process of the land-based technical elements for Viking Link in Denmark on May 30, 2016.

A planning application will be submitted to the Ministry of Climate and Energy, Denmark by early 2017.

In January 2017, tender of US$1,392 million contract has been issued with the last submission date of November 27, 2017.

The scope of work under the contract includes detailed design, engineering, procurement, manufacture, installation, construction, testing, commissioning, spares provision, operational handover and maintenance of an interconnector.

The final investment decision (FID) is expected to be made in 2018 and construction is expected to be completed by fourth quarter of 2022.
