Scope
The Barraza Convention Center project involves the construction of a new convention center in Amador Causeway, Barraza, Panama.

Summary
The Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) is undertaking the Barraza Convention Center project in Amador Causeway, Barraza, Panama.

The project features construction of three exhibition center of 15,000m2 areas, banquet halls on 4000m2 area, meeting hall on 1000m2, 1700 parking spaces and other related infrastructures.

The project includes the construction of a new convention center of 58,000m2 in Amador Causeway, Barraza.

The new conventions center will replace the existing one at Atlapa. Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP is undertaking design work. The government has decided to sell out the Atlapa center to build this project.

In October 2012, construction work has been awarded to the consortium of HPC-Contratas P&V SA which is formed by HPC Panama, Soluciones Arquitectónicas of Costa Rica, P&V of Panama, Heliopol of Spain and Quality Construction of Puerto Rico.

In September 2013, Prointec is appointed as project manager on the project.

The construction work on the project is stopped since December 15, 2014, due to administrative reason.

Consortium of HPC was doing construction work on this project and so far they have done 36% of the construction work but they are not going to complete the project due to administrative reason. The contract was canceled.

ATP is planning to appoint the contractor from the previous pre-qualified bidders or continue the contract with HPC-Contratas P&V SA. Odebrecht, ICA and China Engineering, previous pre-qualified bidders, are interested in continuing the construction work.

Before stopping the construction work, 33% construction work is completed.

China Construction America and Grupo COCIGE are appointed as the new construction contractor on the project.

In February 2016, construction work is restarted on the project.
