Summary
The Bristol International Airport (BAL) is undertaking the Bristol Airport Expansion project in Bristol, the UK.

The project involves the expansion of the existing passenger terminal building to east and west to double its size of the building for delivering increased capacity at security and immigration counters.

The extension of east terminal building on a 6,700m2 area and west terminal building on a 3,600m2 area.

The project will be executed in multiple phases. The first phase of the project involves the extension of the west terminal, and the second phase of the project involves the extension of the east terminal buildings.

The project includes the construction of new multi-story car parking facility, new aircraft stands, a new three-story administration building and public transport interchange connected to the terminal by a covered walkway and a new underground storage facility for aviation fuel to be located in the northwest corner of the long stay car park.

The two multi-story car parking will have a capacity of 3,650 cars approximately. The one building with four levels and other with five levels will be located north of the terminal to provide short and long stay parking and facilities for the pickup and set down of passengers.

The covered pedestrian link bridge will connect the public transport interchange and the multi-story car park with the terminal building forecourt.

A new three-story administration building covering 4,800m2 area will be constructed just to the north-west of the expanded terminal. The current administration building will be demolished.

The new underground fuel storage depot will be constructed near north side car parking. This will include the provision of three tanks having a capacity of 1,200 cubic meters each.

The two walkways will serve the passengers to walk between aircraft and the terminal building and reducing the use of buses to board and disembark flights.

In June 2009, the airport submitted the planning application for the expansion to North Somerset Council. The project has received approval from the North Somerset Council in May 2010.
