Summary
D.C. United Holdings (DCUH) is undertaking a soccer stadium in Washington, the US.

The project involves the construction of a 20,000-seat soccer stadium. It includes the construction of 19,400 seats, with a standing room for 600, changing rooms, 31 luxury suites, a bike valet, retail and residential services, team locker rooms, a fitness center, a press box, concession stands, suites and lounges, restrooms and 447 bicycles parking space, and installation of safety systems.

In August 2012, DCUH was planning to finalize the location from the two preferred sites, one of which is located in Baltimore, Maryland and the other is at 100 V Street in Buzzard Point, Washington DC.

Maryland Stadium Authority studied the economic impact of D.C. United Stadium in Baltimore. In December 2010, DCUH initiated a feasibility study to locate the project in Baltimore.

In August 2013, Major League Soccer (MLS) club and District of Columbia, signed a public-private partnership term sheet to build the project. The term sheet calls for the district to act as a horizontal developer and assume the cost of land acquisition and infrastructure, while DCUH would construct the stadium.

In January 2014, as per the Washington Post poll, 59% of respondents are against using city funds to help build a stadium in Buzzard Point.

In February 2014, Populous was appointed as architect for the project.

Marshall Moya Design has been appointed as architect for the project and Schuff Steel Company as project manager.

On December 2, 2014, the D.C. Council granted preliminary approval to the project.

The city council will pay up to US$170 million for land and infrastructure, while the team would pay US$150 million for the construction of the stadium.

On December 17, 2014, the D.C. Council granted final approval for the project.

On June 8, 2015, the deal has been finalized to build the project. District leaders had approved spending US$140 million to acquire the land for the site and handing out another US$40 million in tax breaks. The team will spend $150 million to build the stadium itself.

In October 2015, DCUH filed to acquire control at Buzzard Point in preparation for construction of the new stadium to the District of Columbia.

Demolition works commenced on the site in April 2016.

DC United awarded a US$150 million construction contract to Turner Construction in July 2016.

D.C. United secured approval on February 16, 2017, from Zoning Commission.

On February 27, 2017, groundbreaking ceremony was held .

Construction activities are underway and expected to complete by July 14, 2018.
