Summary
Dubai Municipality (DM) is planning to undertake the construction of a new satellite city in Dubai, the UAE.

The project involves the construction of a satellite city comprising 20,000 homes for Emiratis and 10,000 low-cost houses for expatriates on 14,000ha of land.

The project will be implemented in phases.

The project includes the construction of a renewable energy plant with a capacity of 200MW, a sewage recycling plant recycling over 0.04mcmpa of waste water, a 7km light rail network to link Dubai Metro and 25km eco-walks for pedestrians and cyclists.

The project also includes the construction of retail units, 270km of main and access roads, commercial units, and parking facilities and the installation of solar panels and other related facilities.

In July 2016, project secured planning approvals from Dubai Municipality.

Khatib & Alami UAE-based engineering firm has been appointed the consultant.

Detailed design works are underway and it will be completed by October 2017. The project is scheduled to be completed by 2020.
