Summary
Department of Energy, Bermuda (DOE) is planning to undertake the construction of the Finger Solar Power Plant in St. George's, Bermuda.
The project involves the construction of a 27MW solar power plant on 24ha of land. It will include the construction of powerhouse, a substation, access roads, and the installation of 83,000 solar panels, transformers, generators, and the laying of transmission lines.
MoED stated that the initial phase of the solar project would use 6ha of the 24ha allocated from the runway extending out into Castle Harbour towards the implementation of the project and will initially have a generation capacity of 6MW. The remaining scope of the project will be developed in a subsequent second phase.
Wsp has completed the feasibility study towards the implementation of the 6MW generation capacity.
The Bermuda Engineering Company and Sol Invictus Holdings Ltd have shown interest in this project.
In July 2016, the Ministry of Economic Development (MoED) announced a competitive phase of selecting the preferred bidder.
In August 2016, the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) was issued which yielded 29 submissions, 19 met the criteria and were therefore issued with a Request for Proposal (RFP) on December 2, 2016, with submission deadline on January 31, 2017.
