Summary
Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) is undertaking the construction of South Bangkok Power Plant Replacement in Samut Prakan Province, Thailand.

The project involves the construction of a 1,200MW combined-cycle thermal gas-fired power plant. It includes the installation of two SGT5-8000 H-class gas turbines, two SGen5-3000W generators, two SST5-5000 steam turbines, two heat recovery steam generators, SPPA-T3000 control system and two trains, security equipment, and the laying of underground transmission lines for the power grid and water pipelines.

The project will be developed in two phases comprising replacement of Units I-V under the first phase and Blocks I-II under the second phase.

The project includes the construction of two chambers, substations, chimneys, gas storage area, gas loading and unloading facilities, compressors, and cooling units.

On November 4, 2016, EGAT invited bids for the US$53 million supply and construction of 230kV underground transmission line, with the due date as January 24, 2017, but later due date was extended to July 23, 2017.

On January 25, 2017, EGAT awarded a turnkey contract to a consortium of Marubeni Corporation, Siemens Aktiengesellschaft, Germany and Siemens Limited, Thailand (“Siemens Group”) for the first phase of the project. The main equipment such as gas turbines, steam turbines, generators and heat recovery steam generators will be supplied by the Siemens Group, while Marubeni will be supplying the balance of plant equipment, and provide civil engineering, construction and installation services and NEM Energy b.v. is responsible for the supply of heat recovery steam generators.

Piling works on the project are underway. Construction works on the first and second phases are scheduled to complete by 2019 and 2022 respectively.
