Couplings are devices that are used to connect two disjoint shafts for transmitting power from one shaft to the other. Couplings are essential components for mechanical drivetrains as they can nullify the detrimental effects of shaft misalignment. There are several different designs of couplings available in the market. The type of coupling to be used depends on the area of application and the amount of torque to be transmitted. Most of the couplings can be categorized as elastomeric, mechanical, and metallic. There are also some special couplings such as custom engineered, hydraulic, and magnetic couplings with limited slip.
