Key highlights
Real estate was the largest asset class for Indian HNWIs in 2014, accounting for 30.8% of total HNWI assets. This was followed by business interests with 23.9%, equities with 22.2%, fixed-income with 8.1%, alternatives with 8%, and cash and deposits with 7%.

Business interests, alternatives and real estate recorded growth during the review period, at respective rates of 36.1%, 21.7% and 17.5%.

Alternative assets held by Indian HNWIs increased from 7.7% to 8% between 2010 and 2014. HNWI allocations to commodities remained same at 4.5% of total assets during this period.

WealthInsight expects allocations in commodities to decline over the forecast period to reach 3.4% of total HNWI assets by 2019.

Indian HNWI liquid assets valued US$490.2 billion as of 2014, representing 37.3% of total wealth holdings.
