Summary
Immobilien Stadt Bern (ISB) is undertaking construction of the Bärn Ost mixed-use complex with a gross floor area of 18,363m2 in Bern, Switzerland.

The project involves the construction of 100 apartments with a gross floor area of 13,375m2, a community center with a gross floor area of 4,988m2, a kindergarten, a restaurant, retail stores and parking facilities.

In February 2013, the design contract was awarded to ds.architekten eth sia.

In June 2015, a public consultation process was begun.

In November 2015, a consultation process was completed and secured approvals.

In February 2016, pretender documentation process was commenced.

In July 2016, tender awarded to a consortium of the Bern building insurance (GVB) and the Wohnbaugenossenschaft ACHT (wbg8) for the project developer.

Zeltner Ingenieure AG was appointed as structural engineering sub-contractor.

In January 2017, a signature campaign was initiated against the project for the preservation of the old tram depot.

In March 2017, the City Council found many invalid signatures during the signature campaign and a review of the campaign is underway.

In December 2017, city council spoke in favor of the project after reviewing the signature campaign.

Building application is scheduled for submission in February 2018.

Construction is scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2018 and will complete in the second quarter of 2021.
