Summary
Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is undertaking the construction of a Kisumu-Kakamega-Kitale Road upgrade project in Nyanza Provinces, Kenya.

The project involves the construction of 151km road from Kisumu to Kakamega, via Kitale. The project is being implemented in sections.

It includes the construction of service roads, access roads, market loops and other related facilities, and the installation of signaling systems, lighting and safety systems.

Otieno Odongo & Partners, and H.P. Gauff Ingenieure has been appointed as lead consultants.

In May 2011, Associated Construction Company Ltd was appointed as construction contractor for the 46.5km Kisumu to Kakamega section.

In May 2012, Jianxi Zhongmei Engineering Construction Company was appointed as the construction contractor for the 58.4km Webuye to Kitale road section.

In September 2012, KeNHA secured US$40.4 million funding from the World Bank.

In October 2012, the construction works commenced.

On January 3, 2013, China Overseas Engineering Group Co was appointed as the construction contractor for the Kisumu to Kakamega section.

The project is being funded by IDA and the Government of Kenya.

On January 6, 2015, 35% of the construction works were completed.

In February 2016, 60% of the construction works completed on Kisumu to Kakamega section.

In September 2016, Jianxi Zhongmei Engineering Construction Company was awarded the contract for section(A1).

In November 2016, Egis were appointed for design review & construction supervision for section A1.

In the last quarter of 2016, construction works on the Kakamega to Webuye section A1 commenced.

In August 2017, Webuye to Kitale section was 85% completed.

Construction works are underway on all three sections.
