Summary
The Manchester based property firm, Bruntwood and Manchester Business School (MBS), a subsidiary of University of Manchester (UoM) are undertaking the construction of Manchester Business School redevelopment project in Greater Manchester, the UK.

The project involves the redevelopment of the business school.

It includes the construction of a 19-story 326-rooms hotel, a conference center, two-story executive education center, 210-bedroom Crowne plaza, 116-bedroom Staybridge Suites and and retail facilities.

The development works will be executed in four phases.

The first phase of the project includes the construction of a four-star hotel and a conference center.

The second and third phases includes new teaching and administrative homes for the school’s MBA programme. The second phase also includes the construction of 37,625m2 retail and leisure facilities comprising 18,580m2 retail facility, a new Learning Library and Enterprise Zone, the removal of a link bridge across Oxford Road and public realm improvements work.

The fourth phase includes the construction of a resources and learning center.

In the second quarter of 2013, the Manchester City Council has given the approval for the development of the hotel.

BDP and Leach Rhodes Walker have been appointed as architect; Hulley & Kirkwood as MEP consultant; Booth King Partnership as structural Engineer; M&L Hospitality Group as the associate developer; and Bradley Demolition as demolition contractor for the project.

In July 2014, UoM signed an investment deal with M&L Hospitality Group for the development of Crowne Plaza and Staybridge Suites which will be managed by Cycas Hospitality.

In August 2015, demolition works commenced and were completed in September 2015.

VINCI Construction UK Ltd, has been appointed as general contractor for the project. Mace Group has been appointed to provide full construction management services and are Principal Contractor, Walker Sime as cost consultant, AECOM as highway consultant.

In January 2016, construction works commenced.

In February 2017, topping out ceremony was held.

Construction works are underway.
