Summary
The Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) is planning to undertake the North Corridor Metrorail Extension project in Miami, Florida, the US.

The project involves the construction of a 15.2km elevated double-track railway line.

It includes the construction of seven new stations at Northside Shopping Center, MDC-North Campus, City of Opa-Locka, Bunche Park, Miami Gardens, Sun Life Stadium and the Calder Race Course and five park-and-ride lots providing a total of 2,650 spaces, the laying of elevated railway tracks, and the installation of lighting, mechanical and electrical systems, and signaling, safety and communication systems.

In May 2006, Cooney Engineering PLLC was awarded a contract to provide the preliminary design work for the project.

On February 22, 2007, Federal Transit Administration (FTA) approved the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS).

On April 26, 2007, the Record of Decision (RoD) for the project.

In November 2008, Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) was issued. MDT received US$8.95 million funding under ISTEA and TEA-21 Act.

Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is planning to fund the project with 43.6% share and the remaining amount would be funded by the Miami-Dade County’s half-penny surtax.
