Scope
The project involves the rehabilitation of 217km highway from Kampot in Cambodia to the Cambodia–Vietnam border at Preak Chak–Xa Xia (Ha Tien) to Ca Mau in Vietnam.

The US$390 million project includes the following:

1. Rehabilitation and upgrade of 89.5km of National Highway QL 80 and QL 63 in Vietnam in Vietnam

2. Rehabilitation and upgrade of 15km on NR33 in Cambodia region

3. Improvement of road pavements

4. Construction of two large bridges across the Cai Be and Cai Lon Rivers

5. Construction of supporting walls

6. Construction of carriage ways

7. Installation of safety systems
Summary
The Vietnam Ministry of Transport (MoT) and Ministry of Public Works and Transport (MPWT) are jointly undertaking the Greater Mekong Subregion Southern Coastal Corridor project in Cambodia and Vietnam.

The project involves the rehabilitation of 217km highway beginning from Xa Xia Border to Ha Tien through Rach Gia to Thu Bay and Nga Bac in Kien Giang Province; and from Nga Bac canal to Industrial Zone (IZ) Ca Mau in Ca Mau Province. In Cambodia, 15km of NR33 will be improved to the border with Vietnam at Preak Chak.

It includes the construction of two large bridges across the Cai Be and Cai Lon Rivers, cross border facilities, two large bridges across the Cai Be and Cai Lon Rivers, 2 lanes for the whole project road, 22 bridges over waterways and canals, road pavements, supporting walls, carriage ways, the upgrade of 89.5km of National Highway QL 80 and QL 63 in Vietnam and 15km on NR33 in Cambodia region, and the installation of safety systems.

In January 2011, resettlement site and updated plan was submitted.

In April 2011, joint venture of Hoang An JSC, Hanoi Transport Construction JSC & Thang Long Construction Group JSC was appointed as civil work contractor on CW 7/2 Nga Bac - Ca Mau section; Transport Construction Investment JSC was appointed as civil work contractor on CW 7/3 Nga Bac - Ca Mau section; and joint venture of Dong Mekong Construction Manufacture & Trading Service Co. & Truong Thinh Group JSC was appointed as civil work contractor on CW 7/4 Nga Bac - Ca Mau section.

In June 2011, joint venture of Hang An JSC & Phu Vinh Construction Co. was appointed as civil work contractor on CW 1/1 Xa Xia - Ha Tien section.

CECI Engineering Consultants has been appointed as engineering consultant, MMM Group as study and environmental consultant, and SMEC International Pty Ltd, PICON, Dasan, Dohwa, PICON and Pyunghwa as the lead consultants.

The project is being funded by the Asian Development Bank, AusAID, Government of Korea and Government of Vietnam through the EDCF loan. The Government of Vietnam has already secured US$128 million.

Asian Development Bank has funded US$125 million and Korea Eximbank along with Government of Vietnam is funding US$120 million, the Australian government is funding US$10.6 million.

In November 2013, Agribank was appointed as the service bank.

Construction works are underway.
