New and Renewable Energy Authority (NREA) is planning to build a solar power plant in Benban, Upper Egypt, Egypt. The project involves the construction of a 50MW solar farm. It includes the construction of a substation and related infrastructure, the installation of solar panels, generators and transformers, and the laying of transmission lines. On June 29, 2015, NREA signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Building Energy to develop the project. In May 2016, Solar sham joined with Building Energy as an associated developer. In August 2017, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Proparco have agreed to provide US$58 million funds for the project. Planning activities are underway.
