Summary
Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works, and Water Management known as Rijkswaterstaat (RWS) and Province of South Holland (PSH) are undertaking the construction of Rhine Route project in Holland, the Netherlands.

The project involves the construction of new roads between Katwijk and the A4 at Leiden via A44.

The project includes the construction of a new road between the A44 and A4: the N434; a new node Ommedijk: A44 - N434; a 2.2km long bored tunnel, and a new node Hofvliet: A4 - N434.

It includes the adjustments to the N206/ir. G. Tjalmaweg in Katwijk (between the junction with the Wassenaarseweg (N441) and the connection Leiden West, extended to 2x2 lanes and deepened part); adjustments to the A4 motorway between Zoeterwoude-Dorp and (new) node Hofvliet; and adjustments to the N206 / Europaweg and Lammenschansplein in Leiden (Europaweg widened to 2 x 2 lanes).

It also includes the reconstruction of intersection Leiden-West on the A44; a road widening of the A44 road between Leiden-West and (new) node Ommedijk; and a widening between A4 Vlietland and the N14.

The project will be divided in three contracts. The first contract includes the boortunneltracé (N434), A4 (up to N14) and A44 junctions Hofvliet and Ommedijk and the connection Leiden-West. The second contact includes Ir. G.Tjalmaweg in Katwijk and the third contract includes Europaweg and Lammenschansplein in Leiden.

Antea Group Nederland has been appointed as lead consultant. The scope of work includes the project management, planning, risk management and touch flat, preparation of decision documents and making second opinions.

The tunnel is being bored using tunnel boring machine (TBM).

Movares has been appointed as study consultant for bored tunnel and ProcessMinded as marketing consultant.

4Rijnland, a joint venture of Heijmans and Dura Vermeer, has been appointed as consulting engineer.

RWS issued tender inviting construction companies to participate in design and implementation of first contract with submission deadline as July 1, 2016.

On September 3, 2016, PSH issued tender to provide archaeological services for the project with a submission deadline as October 11, 2016.

On January 31, 2017, A Comol5 joint venture joint venture of Mobilis, Croonwolter & dros, DEME Infra Marine Contractors and Vinci Construction Grands Projets appointed as construction contractors for the project with the contract value of US$527 million.
