The Republic of Bulgaria (RoB) is planning to construct a canal in Bulgaria.
The project involves the construction of a navigable canal covering 19,000ha area, a water distribution system, storage facilities, pumping stations and infrastructure.
Under the state and government documents, the RoB considered three possible routes to develop the proposed canal.
The first route includes the construction of a 176km canal from Ruse and passes near Razgrad and Shumen, before finishing in Varna, the second route includes the construction of a 192km canal and multiple gateways accumulating waters of the rivers and the third route includes the construction of a 156 km canal starting from small Preslavets to Varna.
